What Are the Different Pairing Modes on a Sena Headset?

All Sena headsets have different Bluetooth pairing modes that allow the product to use specific Bluetooth profiles (refer to this FAQ for a breakdown of Bluetooth profiles) so that they can be used to talk to someone over the phone, through the intercom, listen GPS directions, listen to Bluetooth streaming music or control functions using a remote. Here are the different pairing modes on all Sena headsets.

Mobile Phone Pairing (HFP + A2DP + AVRCP)

This pairing mode allows you to pair to a primary device such as a mobile phone or a standalone GPS so that you can talk over the phone, listen to navigational directions or listen to Bluetooth streaming music. Mobile Phone Pairing is available on all Sena headsets.

Second Mobile Phone Pairing (HFP + A2DP + AVRCP)

This pairing mode allows you to pair to a secondary device such as a mobile phone or a standalone GPS so that you can talk over the phone, listen to navigational directions or listen to Bluetooth streaming music. Second Mobile Phone Pairing is available on all Sena headsets using Bluetooth 4.1.

Multipoint Pairing (HFP)

This pairing mode allows to pair to a secondary device such as a second mobile phone or a standalone GPS device to hear navigational directions. Multipoint Pairing is available on all Sena headsets using Bluetooth 3.0.

Phone Selective Pairing (HFP)

This pairing mode allows you to pair a device using a specific Bluetooth profile so that you can talk over the phone, listen to directions from a standalone GPS. Phone Selective Pairing is available on all Sena headsets.

Media Selective Pairing (A2DP + AVRCP)

This pairing mode allows you to pair a device using a specific Bluetooth profile so that you can listen to Bluetooth streaming music. Media Selective Pairing is available on all Sena headsets.

GPS Pairing (HFP + Intercom)

This pairing allows you to pair a standalone GPS to a Sena headset so that when turn-by-turn directions are given by the GPS, it will not interrupt the current intercom conversation. GPS Pairing is only available on the 20S.

Remote Control Pairing (AVRCP)

This pairing mode allows you to control certain functions on a Sena headset such as pausing / un-pausing your music or changing tracks forwards or backwards on a mobile phone. This pairing mode is available on all Sena headsets.

Intercom Pairing

This pairing mode allows you to communicate over Bluetooth freely between other Sena headsets. You can pair and connect two headsets together for a two-way intercom conversation or you can pair and connect multiple headsets together for a multi-way intercom conference.

Universal Intercom Pairing (HFP + Intercom)

This pairing mode allows a Sena headset to be paired with a non-Sena headset so that you can talk to others that are using Bluetooth headsets from a different brand.
