I need a longer cable to extend the PTT extension cable. What shoul I do?

To extend the length of PTT extension cable, you have to have a standard 2.5mm jack cable extension. 2 or 3 pole is OK. For connection one end of the cable should be a male jack type and the other end should be female type.

Does the SMH10 have an external Push-to-Talk button that could be mounted on the bike's handle bars?

I'm getting my two SMH10 units setup up now and it looks like the all we need to do is tap the Jog Dial to begin a conversation (known as Intercom) and then when the conversation is done, tap the Jog Dial again.  Right?

    Thanks - Dan

SMH10 does not offer extension of hardware buttons. Intercom can be activate by tapping the Jog Dial or voice detection. You can enable intercom VOX by follow instruction on page 15 of latest SMH10 User Manual or through SMH10 Manager if you have firmware update supported SMH10.

What is a 2 or 3 pole extension?  I thought one black strip was mono and two black strips were stero.  where does the three come from?  Becuase I want an PTT extension camble also.  2.5 mono cables are not made anymore.  Just stero cables.  Should the stero jack work also?  thanks Marvin

2 or 3 pole refers to channels or contacts of the cable. 2 pole is one channel/contact since other is GROUND. 2 pole is two channels/contacts. For PTT extension, either 2 or 3 pole 2.5mm connector cable can be be used.

It only needs to be about a foot longer to allow it to be attached to the handlebars and connected to the SR10 in a tankbag.   I can't see why the 'stock' PTT cable needs to be so short making it necessary to buy a separate extension.

That said, used my SR10/SMH10/PMR combo for the first time at the weekend it it worked a treat.

Since the PTT cable has to pass through the small rubber hole in the side of the SR10 (I assume the rubber case of the SR10 is what makes it water resistant) in order to plug into the 2.5mm has Sena considered coming out with their own PTT extension cable?  A right-angle 2.5mm thin male connector to plug into the SR10 would be ideal.

I am also looking for a short 2.5mm extension cable, perhaps 4 inches long, to extend to my own pigtail for the PTT on my bike's handlebar switch pod. I made the mistake of cutting the provided PTT cord thinking I would be able to solder on a female jack. Big mistake!!! The wires are angel hair thin and wrapped around a fabric cord. Soldering them is well nigh impossible. I have a short 2.5mm extension cable from Best Buy on order, hopefully it will fit the small hole. In the mean time I found a 3 foot cord with 2 male 2.5 mm ends on it. Not ideal but it will work. I had to use my Dremel with a sanding drum to reduce the diameter on the plastic portion of the male fitting to allow it to fit the small diameter port on the SR10. Yes it would be nice if Sena would market the correct 2.5 short pigtail for a true plug and play set up.

I too would like to see longer FACTORY cords / and or extension cords for the PTT AND the radio interface cables.  The current short lengths require the PTT, Radio, and SR10 to be in very close proximity (e.g. all with in 6 inches).  Bad design to think all of this should be placed on a handle bar or in a tank bag !     The wireless Bluetooth capability should lend itself to mounting the Radio and the SR10 remotely on a bike (e.g. in a tour pack, or saddle bag) with a single long lead PTT button mounted on the handle bar.

THAT SAID:  We used to run ChatterBox X1's in our ride groups (moving away due to GRMS compatibility issues).  The ChatterBox remote push to talk button is a 2 pole 2.5mm implementation with a very long cord.  If you want to mix and match - get a ChatterBox PTT and plug it into your SR10.  You can pick up the  CHATTERBOX 2.5MM PUSH TO TALK BUTTON  for about $14 (USD)  Just make sure you get the 2.5mm and NOT the 3.5mm version.  As an added bonus the ChatterBox cable comes in 2 pcs which connects in  the middle by a 2-pole RCA connector. So, if you need a REALLY  LONG cord (lets say to run from the handle bards, under the tank and seat to a saddle bag) you can use any RCA audio cable in the middle.

NOTE: As mentioned above (by others), the fit into the SR10 is not going to be like one of SENA's ring sealed (waterproof) plugs and you may need to file or use SUGRU putty on the ChatterBox plug to get an optimal fit into the SR10.
