How can we identify compatible Bluetooth devices?

SHM10 can wirelessly connect to other Bluetooth devices supporting HSP/HFP (Headset Profile/Hands Free Profile) and A2DP (Advance Audio Distribution Profile). HSP/HFP is standard in all phones with Bluetooth feature. Almost all Bluetooth MP3 players, Smartphone, audio dongles support A2DP to send stereo audio to Bluetooth headset like SMH10.
As for GPS navigation system, Sena highly recommends GPS navigation system designed specifically for motorcycle. There are many automobile GPS navigation systems which support HSF/HFP, but many are only able to connect to Bluetooth phones and will not work with Bluetooth Headsets

HFP and A2DP are standardized and common blueototh profiles. Compatibility is rarely an issue for devices supporting these bluetooth profiles. Due to many brands and models of bluetooth phones, testing with each phone is almost an impossible task. However, we have not seen any compatibility issue with Blackberry, Android OS, or iPhone. As for GPS, we only recommend motorcycle intended GPS systems e.g. ZUMO220/550/660 and TomTom RIder.

I have a pair of SMH10 equipped helmets, and my brother is thinking of a new communicator.  I suggested a Sena so we would be compatible.  I saw the new 10C, and would like to know what com features are compatible with the SMH10's.  Is the intercom completely compatible?  Music sharing?  Thanks.  Jay.

I was super disappointed to discover that my Garmin Nuvi 2597 would not work with my Sena 20S. I felt completely mislead about the compatibility of Sena products with other Bluetooth devices. Lots of bikers use products other than the wildly overpriced Garmin Zumo line. Please fix this Sena or fix your advertizing so it says "our product only works with a very few (4) GPS models"!!! Totally lame.

    Peter,

This is a Garmin limitation. Garmin has listed all their devices that are compatible with Bluetooth headset in the following link below.

Any idea if there are any compatibility issues with other Bluetooth helmets on the market?  Namely, the BILT TECHNO series with their DWO-3 Bluetooth systems?  Wife already has this helmet so just wondering if the SMH10 will be compatible to hers if I add it to my helmet.

    Tyler,

The SMH10, along with many of our other headsets, has a feature called Universal Intercom that allows it to communicate with headsets from different manufactures.

    Hi,

I was using my BlackBerry Priv with Android 6.0 and a SMH5 without any issue, but since my phone updated to 6.0.1, listening to music is not possible anymore. The sound hased all the times.

I already contact support who ask to send back the device to my dealer. This one gave me a new SMH5 and the problem remains. Looks like there is a compatibility issue with my Blackberry Priv running Android 6.0.1 and the SMH5 (running firmware 2.1 or 2.2, I tried both).

Has someone tried the same configuration as mine ?

I too have a problem with music playing through the headset.  If I pair my phone (G4) only, it works fine.  However, when connected to both my phone and my Garmiin Zumo, it stops working.  You can see the media player on the Garmin, and the phone seems to be playing the music, just nothing comes out of the speakers music related.

@Supdave1969: If you are not using one of the devices that supports the Dual A2DP feature like the 20S, 10S, 10R, or 10U then you are only able to have 1 device be able to play music through the headset. You need to pair your phone using Mobile Phone Pairing then your Garmin Zumo using Multipoint Pairing. This will make it so that the source of your music will be your phone.

@Vincent - I also have a Priv running 6.0.1 and using a SMH5-FM. Bluetooth music cuts out/stutters every few seconds or so - making it unusable. Sounds like we have the same issue. I've tried turning on/off the different bluetooth settings (EDR/A2DP) but no luck. Let me know if you found a way to resolve it, and I'll do the same.

    @D Kruis

Yes I found a way to solve it, it was related to the upgrade of the PRIV. So I re-image my phone using Balckberry tools and images. Be aware that your phone will be totally re-initialized, so it will losse all its data, including yours, so don't forget to backup everything on your phone (for myself, it was just photos cause all contacts and other stuffs were related to my google account).

To do so, please follow this link : http://support.blackberry.com/kb/articleDetail?articleNumber=000038083&language=English
