The Differences Between the 10R and the SMH10R.

The difference between the 10R and the SMH10R are as follows.

1. The 10R is grey where as the SMH10R is black.

2. The 10R uses Bluetooth 4.1.

3. With 10R using Bluetooth 4.1, this allows for more functionality such as Sena Smartphone App compatibility and Handlebar Remote and Wristband Remote support.

4. Since it supports the Handlebar Remote, there is one included in the package of the 10R.

5. The 10R has a built in FM radio.

6. The 10R comes with improved speakers for better audio quality. The connectors for the speakers have been changed so the speakers for the SMH10R are not compatible with the speakers for the 10R.

7. The talk time has been increased to 10 hours.

8. The length of time it takes to charge the 10R is 3 hours.

The 10R is already capable of being used with the Sena Smartphone App. The SMH10R however, is not able to be used with the Sena Smartphone App.

With the 10R, can you listen to music and intercom chat at the same time, or do you have to physically switch between one or the other?

@Lmcmanus: If the issue you are referring to is the Earbud Adapter for the 10R not being available for purchase in Australia then here is a link to an authorized Sena distributor in Australia that is selling it:

I bought in May 2016 from official distributor in  Estonia Motodepoo SMH10R. That time seller did not explain this difference between 10R an SMH10R at all.  When I asked, then guy In shop told, that SMH10R should be compatible with BLUETOOTH HANDLEBAR REMOTE CONTROL and also Android phone. And thus later I also bought handlebar remote control.

Now it became obvious that these devices are not compatible. What should I do?

I have now 2 expensive devices, which don't work together and don't have functionality, which I really need. Or is there any possibility to make things compatible?

I also was told to get the SMH10R because of the features, I have downloading this site several times and it keeps telling me wrong one so I would delete it and download it again just wasted 2 days and the phone keeps tell me wrong number to .This is untill I just found out at the top of the page it has not got these options. Not happy.

I have used the SMH10 for about 4 years, and it's starting to show it's age and wear. As I was impressed with the SMH10 I bought a 10R as a replacement. To my shock and surprise once I received the 10R I find out that it does NOT have a USB charging dongle like the once that came with the SMH10. To add insult to injury the connectors have been changed so I can't even use my SMH10 USB charging dongle.

I am not a "starbucks" rider, meaning that my typical rides are 12-14 hours, hence why I originally bought the SMH10 and now the 10R, as I would always have the second battery charging so that I could quickly swap them over and have power to my Sena indefinitely.

I am disappointed with Sena's step back in advancements since I am unable to (even buy the new USB charging dongle as an option). I have contacted Sena Support, but have not had any replies or even a suggestion as to where I could purchase the new style connectors so that I could make an interface cable to enable me to use the SMH10 USB charging dongle.

I hope someone here can help/advise where/how I can either buy a USB charging dongle for the new connectors on the 10R or at least the connectors so I can make my own interface cable.

I should add, that I also purchased a second battery with the 10R, as I could not have imagined that Sena would NOT provide a way to charge the battery (or second battery) without it being plugged into the 10R unit.

This is the main/only reason I have opted for the 10R, and now I'm stuck with a unit that's practically useless for my needs!

What a shame that you can't use SMH10R speakers with the 10R.  These so-called "upgraded" 10R speakers sound great at a stop lights, but they don't cut through the wind noise as well as the SMH10R speakers.  That extra bass and fullness doesn't do any good if you can't hear it when in motion. The SMH10R sounds better when the bike is moving.
