Must use USB 2.0

I failed my firmware upgrade multiple times.  I received instructions on how to proceed with the reset button but it kept failing.  Finally I tried a USB 2.0 slot and it worked.  I thought I had bricked the unit.

Let me know if you've had success with usb 3.0, but I believe this may be the problem, for me at least.

Hi Solomon, thanks for the response. There is no blue in the usb ports. So it looks like I am screwed. I don't understand stuff that doesn't plug and play......................

The back up and support from Sena is extremely slow and of poor quality. Extended response times and lack of knowledge of their own product really lets them down. A shame, because the intercom works so well.

The first HP product featuring USB 3.0 was the HP Envy 17 3D featuring a Renesas USB 3.0 host controller released on October 28, 2010.

Indeed using usb 2.0 helps. I had problems until I switched the ports and it worked!! Finally!

Where's Sena Support when we need them? They should release an upgrade to this

My update is stalling on two different computers at 90%. WTF! Why isn't Sena support posting something on these forums or on their website!!!!!

I have found a lot of help from other users, to whom I am very grateful.

Sena Tech have ignored my compatibility issues with Tom Tom for several weeks now.

I have tried every possible way for my new 20S yet could not make the software recognize the headsets. I tried them on PC, tried them on 4 different MACs. I have read all the forums and applied all recommendations. After spending 490 EUR and not being able to do such a simple task is EXTREMELY ANNOYING... As I see from forums here it is a long history as a problem. I would like to remind the SENA management below words (directly from their website):

".. Sena Bluetooth takes incredible pride in the products it engineers and develops. Not only does a product have to look good, but it also has to function properly..."

Yeah, I thought this was funny, but I tried it, and updated all of my firmware, good catch.

Do these posts go anywhere? I'm not seeing where they are answered. I Can't load firmware update 1.4 to my 20s. Do I really need it? Only want communication with pillion, music, and possibly phone - not yet sure I want to add that layer of distraction yet. If another upgrade after 1.4 comes out, can that be loaded if you didn't load 1.4?

I also had problem trying to update firmware and it worked once i switched to a usb 2.0 port instead of a usb 3.0 port.

( it would not proceed when I was prompted to press and hold the center button and I held it for a long time still nothing happened. This is for SMH10R )

I could not get my Mac to recognize the 10C even after disabling all my Bluetooth devices on the Mac (as they require) including my keyboard and mouse, which was infuriating.  Also I have disabled my Mac's security settings as needed to run the unsigned software.   Does the firmware update require only USB 2.0 ?  My Mac has 3.0.

sorry without knowing what computer you have hard to say if you have one or not . Like i said  they don't have to have color coding (on my computer I have red, orange, blue and black usb's)....

maybe you have friends / family who has an older computer?

Thanks again Solomon. It seems strange that we need an old computer to access updates!  I have a HP Pavilion laptop, bought new in 2008 and running Windows Vista. I can't even get the "manager" to install. It keeps stalling at 90% on the green progress bar.

@PaulThetford your HP Pavilion laptop purchased in 2008 definitely does NOT have USB 3.0 since the spec was only announced on November 17th 2008 and the first motherboards with USB 3.0 weren't even announced until January 5th 2010.

Hi Guys, how do I identify a usb 2.0 port? I am stuck trying to get past first base!

Generally, USB 3.0 ports are identified by using a blue piece in the port, but doesn't mean all black ports are 2.0

best to consult your user manual

if you have a custom build machine then check your motherboard manual.
