Why the asterisked note at the end of this?  Sena provides Mac software to manage device firmware updates.  Does Sena expect me to buy a Windows machine just to update my SMH10?

I downloaded the x64 software and it won't run on my Win 8.1 machine. It just sits there processing and won't let me make any selections. I also tried the x32 software, but it told me I needed to download the x64 version.

I would re-download the software.  It works fine on my 8.1 machine.

I was able to upgrade on my MacBook Pro (running latest version of Mavericks). Took quite a while, but was able to update two units. I started the Sena software, then plugged the unit into the USB cable, light turned red, and the Sena software prompts did the rest. A little clunky, but serviceable. Had to hold the phone button near the beginning of the update, and then both buttons near the end. The length of time I needed to hold them was significantly longer (maybe 30+ seconds) on the second unit compared to the first (about 10 seconds) which I found odd. Can play music from one iPhone simultaneously on both headsets now, though, which made it worthwhile.

Trying to upgrade firmware on a Mac is a joke. The whole process is so screwed up it is not fun. I should have known when spelling mistakes are evident on the instruction page (strat vs start).  Just hopping now that the attempted update did not mess up what I did have. Fix it and send it out in a proper format. An update should not cause ny computer to have to reborn mis process. This is not the first time updates were released before ready.

The multiple typos in Pmoran1975's post where he complains about spelling mistakes in the instructions is ludicrously ironic.

I use Linux and only hope to be able to update firmware using a Windows or Mac VM.

Why does it tell me to "burn to disc" when I just want to download the firmware to my SMH10B?

@John: You need to download and install the Sena Device Manager in order to update the firmware on your SMH10. Downloading and installing just the individual file will you give you that error as it is the type of file that needs to be opened/used with a program, in this case the Sena Device Manager.

Doh!  Tks for the tip.  I guess I just didn't read correctly.  I have since done the upgrade.

I don't know why there is an asterisk recommending the Windows update only- this is really off-putting and I almost returned the product because all I have is a MAC.

However, I just updated this on my macbook pro with NO ISSUES WHATSOEVER.  Haven't installed the system on helmet yet, but the pairing and firmware upgrade is so far so good.

Sena Support- you might want to weigh in on this MAC OS issue as you are losing potential customers who are worried about it.

Win 7 64 bit here. The unit came with firmware version 3.0. I need the functionality of firmware version 5.01. It is however impossible to upgrade the firmware because the device manager software is crap. Anyone been able to update the firmware on a win 7 64 bit system?

Yes.  With no problems whatsoever. Try downloading the latest Device manager version (v2.0.3) and then the SMH10 v5.0.1 firmaware.  FWIW though, I have never had any issues with any of the Device Manager and/or SMH10 software versions.

Using windows 7/64bit...I can't get past the prompt "press and hold the phone button until this message disappears" I've held the phone button for more than 5 min.

My only regret is not getting the Interphone system.  I bought the GP-10 backpack to go with my GoPro 3+ and the entire software/firmware update process blows!  Failed to recognize device on both a brand new PC running Windows 8 as well as my MackBook Pro 10.8.5.  If Sena doesn't fix this NOW I'm literally burning the entire shitty system (will post on YouTube) and starting over with the Interphone.  FIX THIS SENA... POST SOMETHING SENA... There's a lot of frustrated people on this forum and there's only 1 reply from Sena?  Weak Sena... very weak!  #sena'ssoftwareupdatesucks

How can you be 100% certain the problem is at Sena's end or with the Sena product and/or software.  If you download the Device Manager and use it to transfer the image to your device there is no problem.  Or certaibnly no problem for me and presumably most other users.   If they work for some that would indicate the issue is at the user end.  No?

UPDATE:  With some trial and error I finally got the Device Manager to recognize the Backpack.  USB has to plugged into the top port, not the port with the "arrow."  Also the MIC has to be in the ON position in addition to the Power.  Not entirely intuitive but glad I got there.  Wyatt at Sena Support also deserves credit as well.  @Alex, do you work for Sena?

I am trying to do the Install of 2.0.3 on the SMH10 and so far it is 1:22 and the blue light on the unit just pulses blue and the green line on the computer is in the same position. Am I doing something wrong here?

I have been using these since 2/2013 and wanted to update the software. I am not a computer guy by any stretch.

I have been trying to update my new 20s - I fully charged the 20s, downloaded the windows 64bit version to my laptop running windows 8, carried out all of the procedures as per the Sena video but despite numerous attempts not once has the device been recognised?  Any help would be appreciated - I did see quoted on another forum that the 20s isn't currently compatible with the 20s but haven't seen anywhere on the Sena site where that is mentioned?

Having just purchased a 20s and found within the packaging is a note recommending I update the software immediately - I charged the unit and downloaded your device manager (Windows 8 64bit) I have now carried out your instructions as above numerous times and each time my 20s is not seen by the programme!

I also tried doing the same on a Windows 7 64bit machine wthout success.

A friend who purchased a 20s at the same time has also tried but this time using his Mac Book Pro - also without success!

Is this software compatible with the 20s?  Any assistance or advice would be appreciated.

@Mally6659: You need to register your headset on our site here http://www.sena.com/product-registration/ in order to gain access to the Sena Device Manager which is the program that is used to update the firmware on all of our products.

Just bought the latest and greatest dual Sena 20S communication System... Nice note to update the firmware right away. Went to the website and downloaded the device manager to my Mac running Mavericks. Tried and tried and tried to get the damned thing to register... nothing! Finally, at the bottom of this post I read Sena Technologies response to Tony England that their device manager doesn't know how to recognize their newest, top-of-the-line product. So, these very exoensive units don't work together at all!

    -Tried pairing; seemed successful
    - Unit 1 can start an intercom call, but unit B cannot
-Trying to end a call with a double jog tap, per directions, ends the call, but starts the radio
-Can't get the firmware update done!!!

    This unit is a mess!

Downloaded the latest update manager onto my new Win8.1 desktop and tried to update my SMH10's but to no avail.  It won't recognize them.  Sent Sena an email with a diagnostic log.  Hopefully they'll respond.

Went back to my old XP machine, with the old update manager and it worked fine.  Something wrong with the new manager on Win 8.1?

Had been so pleased with my SMH10 that I took the plunge and bought the 20S.  What a mistake that was.   The latest version of the Sena Firmware updater crashes every time I run it.  I have registered the 20S but that doesn't seem to matter.   Obviously Sena needs to hire some programming talent, especially on the Mac side.  I'm leaving on a long bike trip in 24 hours and Sena hasn't returned my phone call asking for help.   Guess I'll be returning the unit and moving to a product that is actually supported by the company that makes and sells it.  This is a major inconvenience, because frankly I don't have time to be shipping stuff back while I'm trying to get ready to leave town.  I spend lots of money on motorcycle accessories, and I brag on what works, and I'm even more vocal about what sucks.   The 20S definitely wasn't ready for prime time.  Wonder if it ever will be.

    @Daniel C: try this:

You can try uninstalling the Sena Device Manager you have installed, and run and install
the copy joined in my post. When you run it it will ask if you wish to update the Sena
Device Manager from 1.4.1 to 2.0.1 select NO and proceed.

    It worked for me.

    Good luck
