Am trying to pair my phone to my SMH10R.  When I press the center button for 10 seconds, I get a low beep, a medium beep, and then a high beep, and the red light flashes and the voice says 'intercom pairing'.  I thought I'd get a configuration menu prompt.

    What am I doing wrong?

I am having the same problems, been messing around with this half the day.  Was having problems where the phone and device would not locate each other, I got into the configurations settings and tried deleting all paired items then exited and shut off, re started and now when I hold the phone button down for the 5 sec it goes to intercom pairing, not phone pairing???????

My issue is a little different. I've upgraded my SMH10B 130202007 unit to 5.11 and did a factory reset. I have a new bluetooth audio dongle (BTI-002) that I want to pair up for music from the XM on my Zumo 550. I can get both units into pairing mode and they are right next to each other. They don't seem to want to communicate. According to the dongle doc, it supports profile A2DP, so what do I need to try?
